Kid Zone
Kids Zone is held every Sunday morning at 10:30am in the gym for the following age groups:
- Pre-school 3-5yrs (including Kindergarten)
- Grade 1 & 2
- Grade 3 & 4
- Pre-teen Grade 5 & 6
Kid Zone contact: Shelagh Watson
Youth - Grades 7-12
The emerging generation is challenged to think and live from a Christ centred orientation in a safe, caring atmosphere. Adult youth leaders are old enough to have “been there-done-that” and young enough to relate to the demands of following God in today’s culture. There’s nothing these people won’t try - and we love it!!
Youth contact: Sandra Derkson
Prayer Group
Meets every Wednesday at 12pm at the church office. Come and support the ministry of your church and find support for the burdens of your heart.
Prayer Group contact: Ken Heaton
Worship Teams
We are always looking for people with a heart that loves God and loves His church who are willing to have their musical skills developed and used to point people to God. We currently have four teams leading worship. Do you want to nurture that heart and art aspect of worship in your life?
Worship contact: Kara Grywacheski
Missions
Esther Johnstone
Remember our new cluster missionary, Esther Johnstone, in prayer this week, as she returns to Baku for another year of teaching. Pray that God will give her the clarity and forethought she needs in order to pack the items she will need, and that He will comfort her as she says goodbye to her daughters.
Colette Baudais (serving in Guinea, West Africa)
We need to be beseeching God for the country of Guinea, in West Africa. Our cluster missionaries Colette Baudais and the Ibsens both sent alarming updates on Thursday. The president of the country has not been keeping to the agreements he made in the winter of 2007, so a group consisting of the majority of the military is rebelling against the government. Please pray for peace to prevail, God's people to be protected, the radio station manager to make wise decisions, and the church to be a light in the darkness.
Steve & Audrey Zub (serving in Hungary)
Steve and Audrey Zub, whom we met when Martin and Ethel Schmitke used to live in Whitecourt and attend Skyview, are ministering in Hungary. Despite emergency trips back to Canada for both of them due to health concerns, they are both back serving in Hungary. Steve is teaching a U.S. History Survey Course at the University in Budapest, and preaching in various churches on weekends. Audrey offers two home Bible studies and two English classes, as well as organizing retreats and festive events aimed at reaching out to women thirsty for Living Water. Their sons, Brendon and Jonathan, live in Cochrane–Brendon in his last year at Alliance University College in Calgary, and Jonathan working in house construction. Stephanie is in her final year of high school at Black Forest Academy in Germany.
In Hungary, Steve and Audrey Zub praise God for transformed lives: among the people with whom they work, they report salvation during the Alpha course, peace with God and inner strength, renewed love for God and more self-confidence, experience of the fellowship of believers and God’s caring presence, love for Bible reading and prayer. Pray that all of these individuals will grow in their faith and regularly become part of their church fellowship.
Dan & Melodie Ibsen (serving in Guinea, West Africa)
Dan and Melodie Ibsen are in field administration in Guinea, West Africa. They both teach seminars in Bible Schools, speak at different functions, and generally look after the Alliance Church missionaries in West Africa. Their oldest two children are grown up and are themselves in missions–Corilee as a grade 6 teacher in Dakar Academy in Senagal, and Charles with Samaritan’s Purse in Niger. The younger two, Kyle and Kerriane, are in high school at Dakar, and take part in the ministry projects available to Christian teens. Dan and Melodie are currently on “home assignment” here in Alberta, which means they are travelling around to the churches in their cluster, telling the congregations about what the Lord is doing through them because of our prayer support.
Dan and Melodie Ibsen are thankful that they are able to continue their ministries despite the unrest in Guinea. Please keep praying, as, although the police and teachers have gone back to work, and the mutinous army group are no longer terrorizing the population in the streets, the prime minister has announced his cabinet and the people have not been too upset by it, the underlying causes of the instability still need to be resolved in order to achieve peace.
Corinne and Patrick Rogers (serving in Penang, Malaysia)
Corinne and Patrick Rogers are, of course, our very own. They and their two children Daniel and Kasey have become an integral part of the Skyview church family. They worked with youth before coming here, helped to renovate the portables that became our church home until we outgrew it, were involved in various church activities, and now are in Penang, Malaysia, where Corinne teaches sciences at Dalat International School and coaches sports, and Pat is the Facilities Coordinator. They all make visits of hope, encouragement, and physical help to the people whose homes and families were devastated by the tsunami.
Let's remember to pray for healing and courage for little Kasey Rogers as she recovers from heart surgery, and for strength, wisdom, and patience for Corinne, Patrick and Daniel as they care for her. Also pray for safe travel as they return to Malaysia on August 6.
Earl and Barb Case (serving in Malaysia)
Earl and Barb Case are at Dalat International School in Malaysia. They are not part of our cluster, but as Earl is son of Margaret Case, and brother to Doug Case, Shelagh Watson and Loren Case, we do have a special interest in their ministry and well-being. They are in charge of the home school department of D.I.S.
We welcome Earl and Barb Case among us this morning. As they progress through their year of home assignment, let's pray for safety in travel, the direction of the Holy Spirit in their interactions with others, and clarity of mind and ear as they study Indonesian in preparation for their next mission ministry.
